Whole house water filters are becoming increasingly popular but why? What are they? What do they remove? And what are the benefits?
What are whole house water filters?

Whole house water filters or Point of Entry water filters, as opposed to point of use systems, filter the water supply as it enters your home. This means that all the water in your pipes, appliances, shower and taps has been filtered. One whole house system will replace all your point of use water filters, the only exception being specialist filters for example Reverse Osmosis.

What do whole house filters remove?

As with most water filtration systems there are so many options but the regular set up as in our whole house systems, is Sediment Removal, Chlorine Removal and then Scale Reduction.

What are the benefits?

Drinking water

Unfiltered drinking water has been a known problem for years. The water in the mains supply has been treated with all sorts of chemicals to get rid of diseases and other contaminents that are bad for your health. This practice is commonplace and is of course incredibly important. However just because these chemicals prevent illnesses, does not mean that they do not come without their own health risks. Drinking chlorinated water can increase the risk of several forms of cancer especially in your liver and bladder. This is removed by the Carbon Filter in your whole of house water.

Shower and Bath

Bathing and showering in unfiltered water dries out your skin and hair, by filtering your shower water your skin and hair will look younger and healthier. Showering in chlorinated water also makes the chemicals airborne and cause you to inhale them, leading to bronchitis. Asthma and other respiratory illness.

Appliances

This is where the scale reduction cartridge of your water filter comes into its own. By removing or debilitating (depending on your system) the hardness causing chemicals, you reduce scale build up in your pipes and appliances. This not only improves their service life but also their effectiveness. Hard water prevents your soaps and detergents from lathering and therefore cleaning. You will also find that with a scale reducing system your clothes and linens will be softer, without that thin crusty layer over them.
