Do I Need a Drinking Water Filter?

The benefits of filtered drinking water are well documented and if you are willing to read through pages of information about long term studies that go into details about drinking water causing cancer and various other terrible diseases then simply use Google. However, for most of you, this is far more information than you need so here are the basic benefits of filtering your drinking water.

Taste

Water filters provide better tasting and smelling drinking water. This is achieved by removing the chlorine and bacterial contaminants that build up in the water supply. These chemicals will also get into any food cooked with unfiltered water as well as into your skin.

Appearance

In many areas the tap water produced is not clear and has floating sediment making it look far less appetising than filtered water. This sediment can be almost anything from rust in your pipes to small organisms that live in your water supply. The large scale filters used in water treatment plants are not small enough remove such tiny particles. If they were, they would become clogged too quickly and require changing far too often. A drinking water filter at your tap will have a much smaller sediment water filter (less than 10 microns) which should give your water that cleaner, clearer appearance.

Pollutants

This is quite a general heading for quite a general problem. The truth is that there can be almost anything in your water pipes from bacteria to disease to dead animals. Disgusting as that thought it, the fact remains that once your water leaves the treatment plant it is not treated again. Depending on your system a water filter will purify your drinking water and reduce these pollutants.

Children

Children are far more susceptible to the effects of polluted drinking water than adults. The low levels of bacteria and disease as well as the chemicals can have an adverse effect on children as well as the sick and elderly. Using a drinking water filter is especially important and highly recommended for households with those at risk.

Fatigue

Chlorine, the chemical used to treat water, is a leading cause of fatigue, and consuming it consistently can affect your energy levels. A carbon drinking water filter will reduce the levels of chlorine and therefore reduce these effects.

We are not suggesting that your water supply is specifically dangerous and it is vitally important that water should be treated before it is consumed. However these levels of water treatment are not necessarily enough to completely purify your drinking water and in some cases occur a long way from your house, meaning your water may well be contaminated again before it reaches your tap.
